P2i showcase award winning technology as EUHA marks five million hearing aid milestone for Aridion™
October 19, 2011
EUHA, NUREMBERG, GERMANY, 19 October 2011: P2i , the world leader in liquid repellent nano-coating technology for hearing aids, is demonstrating its revolutionary Aridion™ technology on Booth G-14 at EUHA, Nuremberg, Germany - Europe’s largest hearing aid congress from the 19 – 21 October.
Aridion™, which substantially reduces warranty failure and repair costs to hearing aids, was innovatively developed as an extension of a technology originally designed to protect soldiers from chemical attack. The past two years have seen tremendous growth for P2i as it emerged into the hearing aid sector. The introduction of the Aridion™ 8 machine has enabled P2i to differentiate between customers and meet the needs of smaller hearing aid manufacturers and dispensers.
P2i’s CTO Dr. Stephen Coulson explains, “P2i has coated over 5 million hearing aid devices with our hydrophobic nano-coating technology which protects devices against corrosion damage caused by cerumen ingress and moisture. We routinely get positive feedback from customers who see dramatically reduced warranty and return rates with the Aridion™ nanotechnology.”
P2i returns to the International Congress of Hearing Aid Acousticians this year with four additional trophies and this month has been award the title of ‘Best Use of Technology’ by the Fast Growth Business Awards 2011 and ‘Most Innovative Company in Europe’ by the International Business Awards. This follows the ‘Borderless Business’ award presented by the Management Today Business Hero Awards earlier this year and the ‘Best of Show’ for the P2i booth at the AudiologyNOW! 2011 trade fair.

What is Aridion™?
Aridion™ is P2i’s revolutionary liquid repellent nano-coating for hearing aids. It provides unbeatable protection against corrosion damage, reducing warranty failure and repair costs and ultimately increasing user confidence.
Aridion™ is applied using a special pulsed ionized gas (plasma), which is created within a vacuum chamber, to attach a nanoscopic polymer layer – one thousand times thinner than a human hair – to the hearing aid. This dramatically lowers the product's surface energy, so that when humidity, sweat or oleos substances come into contact with it, they form beads and simply roll off.
Plus, because Aridion™ can coat every aspect of a finished product at the nanoscopic level, it protects much more thoroughly than alternative approaches where individual product components are treated prior to assembly. The result is a truly durable liquid repellent coating that does not affect the product's look, feel or delicate acoustic properties.
About P2i
P2i is the world leader in liquid repellent nano-coating technology. It was established in 2004 to commercialize liquid-repellent treatments developed by the UK’s Ministry of Defence. Now on a commercial scale, P2i’s patented process has been successfully applied to a wide range of products in a wide range of markets including lifestyle, electronics, military and institutional, life sciences, energy and filtration.
In consumer sectors, the presence of P2i’s technology is indicated either by ion-mask™, its brand for footwear, outdoor clothing and accessories, or Aridion™, its brand for electronics.
