P2i Charitable Trust Raises £9,800 For Local Charities
December 5, 2011
The P2i Charitable Trust, established last year by P2i, the world leader in liquid repellent nano-coating technology, has raised £9,800 in fundraising efforts to assist local charities. This year, the trust has contributed £3,000 to support scientific education and improve the lives of underprivileged children.
Fundraising antics have included an internal ‘Auction of Promises’ at the annual P2i Staff Day; a ‘Scally Rally’ whereby four of P2i’s employees drove across Europe in a car worth less than £100, dressed up in tribute to the theme of ‘Three Men and a Baby’; and employees’ half-marathon runs.
The first charity to benefit from the Trust is Didcot-based Friends of O.S.C.A.R., which supports children with brain or spinal injuries and their families. A donation was made to fund the production of new support packs for families. Additionally, the Trust has agreed the donation of funds to Science Oxford to help set up Science Enterprise Days for budding scientific entrepreneurs in two local secondary schools, and is also working with a local primary school to provide educational materials.
Carl Francis, CEO of P2i, said: “We are proud to be able to give something back to the local communities where we have grown our business. Establishing the P2i Charitable Trust enables both the company and our employees to support scientific education and improve the lives of underprivileged children, the two specific goals of the trust and causes that are very close to our hearts.”
The P2i Charitable Trust has achieved full charitable status from the UK Charities Commission (Registered Charity Number: 1139589). Funds raised by the Trust will be donated directly to specific individuals and organizations falling within the scope of the Trust’s goals, or donated to other charities that support the same objectives.

How the P2i technology works
P2i’s technology works by applying a nanometer-thin polymer layer over the entire surface of a product. Using an ionized gas (plasma) this layer is molecularly bound to the surface and will not leach away. The process confers superior oil and water repellency by reducing the surface energy to ultra-low levels – down to one third that of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene). In footwear and textile applications, P2i’s technology also minimizes liquid absorption from outside elements and evaporated perspiration.
Tests show that P2i's patented nano-coating technology can deliver performance benefits for a wide range of materials, including polymers, metals, fabrics, leather, ceramics, glass and paper. Even complex, 3D objects incorporating several different materials can be treated successfully with the P2i process: from footwear to hearing aids, bio-consumables to filtration.
