Hearing Lab Technology expands production with P2i
May 9, 2012
ABINGDON, U.K., 9 May 2012: P2i, the world leader in liquid repellent nano-coating technology, is pleased to announce the expansion of production with Hearing Lab Technology, formerly known as America Hears.
Following a year of successful application with an Aridion™ 8 nano-coating system, Hearing Lab Technology has agreed to increase production through the introduction of a larger 40 liter system. With the new nano-coating system, the company will be able to not only increase the volume of hearing aid devices treated but will also expand the treatment to head sets and an assortment of electronics.
Tim Schnell, Hearing Lab Technology comments: “The Aridion™ coating, which we believe to be a game-changing innovative moisture management technology, has helped us to substantially reduce warranty failure and repair costs in our hearing aid range. The addition of the new nano-coating system will allow us to roll out the process onto all of our products, positioning Hearing Lab Technology as a reliable, customer focused, cutting-edge, company.”
Carl Francis, CEO, P2i comments: “The Hearing Lab Technology is a great example of how P2i can provide tailored liquid repellent solutions for the range of organizations in the hearing aid sector. Utilizing the Aridion™ 8 as a stepping stone, the company was able to validate the technology and performance before investing in a larger system and higher volume. The ongoing partnership is a powerful endorsement of our technology and we look forward to supporting the Hearing Lab Technology as they continue to grow in the future.”
The Aridion™ nano-coating, which protects hearing aids from the effects of water and corrosion damage, is applied at low pressure in a vacuum chamber. This ensures that the coating is not only applied to every component of the device, internally and externally, but is durably bonded to the surface of the hearing aid.
Notes to Editors
What is Aridion™?
Aridion™ is P2i’s revolutionary liquid repellent nano-coating for Electronics. It provides unbeatable protection against corrosion damage, reducing warranty failure and repair costs and ultimately increasing user confidence.
Aridion™ is applied using a special pulsed ionized gas (plasma), which is created within a vacuum chamber, to attach a nanoscopic polymer layer – one thousand times thinner than a human hair – to the hearing aid. This dramatically lowers the product's surface energy, so that when humidity, sweat or oleos substances come into contact with it, they form beads and simply roll off.
Plus, because Aridion™ can coat every aspect of a finished product at the nanoscopic level, it protects much more thoroughly than alternative approaches where individual product components are treated prior to assembly. The result is a truly durable liquid repellent coating that does not affect the product's look, feel or delicate acoustic properties.
P2i is the world leader in liquid repellent nano-coating technology. It was established in 2004 to commercialize liquid-repellent treatments developed by the UK’s Ministry of Defence. Now on a commercial scale, P2i’s patented process has been successfully applied to a wide range of products in a wide range of markets including Lifestyle, Electronics, Life Sciences, Military & Institutional and Filtration & Energy.
In consumer sectors, the presence of P2i’s technology is indicated either by Aridion™, its brand for Electronics or ion-mask™, its brand for Lifestyle (including footwear and accessories). See www.p2i.com for more information.
