P2i finalist for Britain's Most Innovative Mobile Company
February 13, 2012
ABINGDON, 13 February 2012: P2i, the world leader in liquid repellent nano-coating technology, is one of four finalists to be recognized as ‘Britain’s Most Innovative Mobile Company’ by the Smart UK Project, established to reward innovation in the mobile industry.
Aridion™ technology by P2i dramatically increases the reliability of electronic devices by protecting them from water and corrosion damage. Over eight million electronic devices are now protected by Aridion™ including smartphones, tablets and hearing aids.
Dr Stephen Coulson, CTO, P2i commented: “Protecting a phone from accidental splashes and spills is only part of the story when it comes to everyday moisture protection. As phones play an increasingly important role in our lives, they journey with us through risky environments like rain, snow and even the sweaty humid environment of the gym. It is this ‘hidden’ exposure to moisture which can cause long term damage to your electronics and where Aridion™ has the potential to revolutionize our expectations for the mobile industry.”
The Smart UK Project 2012 competition is open to any UK-based company working in the mobile industry that can demonstrate a new product or service that has the potential to change the way people use mobile across the world. P2i is one of four finalists and will compete for the title of Britain’s Most Innovative Mobile Company, to be announced on the 29 February at Mobile World Congress, Barcelona.
Ed Vaizey, Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) commented: “Future growth depends on our ability to generate new ideas with global reach and impact. The UK has already had an enormous impact on the global mobile market and this competition aims to highlight the future stars of the industry”.

What is Aridion™?
Aridion™ is P2i’s revolutionary liquid repellent nano-coating for Electronics. Aridion™ is applied using a special pulsed ionized gas (plasma), which is created within a vacuum chamber, to attach a nanoscopic polymer layer – one thousand times thinner than a human hair – to the electronic device. This dramatically lowers the product's surface energy, so that when liquids or moisture come into contact with it they are repelled from the surface instead of wetting.
Plus, because Aridion™ can coat every aspect of a finished product at the nanoscopic level, it protects much more thoroughly than alternative approaches where individual product components are treated prior to assembly. The result is a truly durable liquid repellent coating that does not affect the product's look, feel or delicate acoustic properties.
