ion-mask helps Timberland 'Repel Wet'

The Timberland Company, a leading global outdoor brand, is using P2i’s revolutionary ion-mask™ technology to create a new generation of footwear. This transforms traditional expectations of weather protection, comfort and performance.

John Healy, General Manager of Timberland’s Invention Factory, comments: “ion-mask™ hit our radar as we were looking to expand our canvas offerings for spring 2011. With ion-mask™, we are able to offer truly breathable, summer-weight canvas shoes that are super water- and stain-repellent. It’s an exciting development for anyone looking to spend time outdoors next spring.”

Unlike membrane technologies, ion-mask™ is not a physical barrier, so it delivers the full natural airflow of the chosen material. The ion-mask™ technology keeps wearers comfortable and dry by resisting water from outside and maintaining optimum control of temperature and ‘breathability’.

P2i’s ion-mask™ technology works by applying a nanoscopic protective layer to the whole shoe, on which water forms beads and simply rolls off. ion-mask™ gives the whole shoe (including different materials, seams and fastenings) superior water repellency and is molecularly bound, meaning it lasts as long as the shoe itself.
Plus, by resisting the absorption of water, ion-mask™ helps guard against stains and dirt residue, ensuring Timberland shoes stay clean this spring.
