ATOM Festival of Science, held on Saturday 25th March in Abingdon Town Market Square, played host to more than 20 stalls from local science-based organisations in the area, including P2i. The event featured some very interesting talks and demonstrations, ranging from the intellectual to the fun and family-friendly, about how science is fundamental to the organisations’ work, and attracted a great deal of interest from the local community. It also encouraged young people to think positively about choosing to study sciences at all levels, as well as looking ahead to careers in science. With several well-known scientific companies located in and around Abingdon, it provided a great opportunity to talk to people who may never have known about the science happening right on their doorstep.
We were pleased to sponsor this event because we recognize the value in getting people to talk, think and share with us their thoughts about science, particularly as we are a global science company based in the area. It was a good occasion for us to help widen people’s perceptions and enable them see that science can also be great fun. With our own hydrophobic nano-coated tissues, we asked people to plunge these into water, they couldn’t believe their eyes when the water just rolled off in small beads like mercury! The children believed it was magic!
