P2i wins Most Innovative Company of the Year Award
May 10, 2012
ABINGDON, U.K., 10 May 2012: P2i, the world leader in liquid repellent nano-coating technology, has won the ‘Most Innovative Company of the Year’ by the Best in Biz Awards 2012 EMEA – a unique competition judged by distinguished business journalists and industry analysts from around the world.
P2i was awarded ‘Gold’ in this category, in recognition of the technological developments required to progress the Aridion™ nano-coating process from low volume manufacturing on hearing aid devices, to a high volume solution, as validated on millions of smartphones and tablets around the globe.
Carl Francis, CEO, P2i comments: “What this award really shows is that the press and analysts understand that it is no longer about just having a great technology or a flashy YouTube demonstration – but that the proof of a technology is in the commercial reality. P2i is the only company who has proven that it can bring a high volume solution to market for electronic devices including smartphones and tablets.”
Developing the process for high volume manufacturing involved not only the manufacture and development of specific nano-coating systems, but also the tailored development of the process - taking into consideration factors such as the design of the product, the materials it contains, as well as time efficiency and capacity of the nano-coating systems.
The patented Aridion™ process uses a special pulsed ionized gas (plasma), which is created within a vacuum chamber, to attach a nanometer-thin polymer layer over the entire surface of a device. This process dramatically reduces the surface energy, so if the device comes into contact with water or liquids during everyday use, the liquids aren’t attracted to the surface. This protects the device from corrosion and water damage.
Unlike other emerging technologies, P2i has a proven track record of commercial success in a range of market sectors: Electronics, Lifestyle, Life Sciences, Filtration & Energy and Military & Defence. Coating products from cell phones to pipette tips, hearing aids and wooly hats, to filtration media for Hard Disk Drives (HDD), P2i is the only proven viable liquid-repellent nano-coating solution available in the market today.

Notes to Editors
What is Aridion™?
Aridion™ is P2i’s revolutionary liquid repellent nano-coating for Electronics. Aridion™ is applied using a special pulsed ionized gas (plasma), which is created within a vacuum chamber, to attach a nanoscopic polymer layer – one thousand times thinner than a human hair – to the electronic device. This dramatically lowers the product's surface energy, so that when liquids or moisture come into contact with it they are repelled from the surface instead of wetting.
Plus, because Aridion™ can coat every aspect of a finished product at the nanoscopic level, it protects much more thoroughly than alternative approaches where individual product components are treated prior to assembly. The result is a truly durable liquid repellent coating that does not affect the product's look, feel or delicate acoustic properties.
About P2i
P2i is the world leader in liquid repellent nano-coating technology.
It was established in 2004 to commercialize liquid-repellent treatments developed by the UK’s Ministry of Defence. Now on a commercial scale, P2i’s patented process has been successfully applied to a wide range of products in a wide range of markets including Lifestyle, Electronics, Life Sciences, Military & Institutional and Filtration & Energy.
In consumer sectors, the presence of P2i’s technology is indicated either by Aridion™, its brand for Electronics, or ion-mask™, its brand for Lifestyle (including footwear and accessories). See www.p2i.com for more information.
