Chinese technology giant Huawei announced the launch of their latest flagship devices using P2i nano coating technology in April.
The P9 and P9 Plus were much anticipated and offer an innovative, 12-megapixel Leica dual-camera system on the back, a metal back plate with a fingerprint sensor on the rear and carefully designed edges for a more comfortable feel. P2i are proud to provide their liquid repellent nano coating to protect the P9 range from liquid damage and corrosion caused by accidental splashes and spills.
Since the launch of the P9 range there has been a lot of excitement, with them being billed as “Huawei’s most beautiful design to date” and their partnership with Leica offers to “revolutionise smartphone photography”.
Breaking into the West
With Huawei now focussing on moving in to North America and expanding in Europe, what better way to promote the P9 range than to show them to the world on a billboard in New York’s Times Square! Passed by hundreds of thousands of vehicles and pedestrians each day it’s one of the busiest tourist attractions in the world. In a recent survey by adweek.com, 81% said they would be more likely to buy a product which was advertised in Times Square and 89% said “only the best brands in the world advertise in Times Square”.
Huawei have also enlisted Avengers actor Scarlett Johansson and Batman v Superman’s Henry Cavill as the face of the P9 campaign to help boost its brand recognition in the west, with an ad showing the P9s camera technology being put to the test by these superheroes.
Huawei have recently announced their financial results for 2015, reporting strong year-on-year (YoY) growth. Huawei’s three business groups reported CNY395 billion (US$60.8 billion) in annual revenue worldwide, up 37% YoY. Widespread rollout of 4G networks, growth of Huawei’s enterprise business, an increased demand for high-quality products that deliver a premium user experience, and not forgetting Huawei’s growing influence as a consumer brand all account for this impressive growth. Huawei is confident it will extend its smartphone dominance, aiming to overtake Apple and Samsung to become the world’s top smartphone maker by 2020, according to a speech by Richard Yu, head of Huawei’s consumer business group, in February.
P2i is excited to be working with Huawei on another two devices, providing their world class nano coating to protect smartphones from liquid exposure, increasing the P9’s reliability and durability. P2i have coated several of Huawei’s flagship devices, including the P8 and Mate S with their innovative liquid repellent technology and look forward to continuing this partnership in the future.
